Position Details: We are looking for a part-time fundraising professional to fill the role of Communications and Development Director and join our staff team. It is a 22.5 hour per week position (0.6 FTE) / $26.78 per hour starting wage / Start date is within the week of June 17th, 2013 / Terms and conditions per collective agreement with CUPE 1004. Job Summary:

This position enhances CoDev’s ability to positively impact the communities it supports by increasing the funds raised on an annual basis through nurturing relationships with current donors and identifying, developing and driving new revenue streams. This includes planning and implementing CoDev’s monthly donor, major gift, annual fund, organizational supporter and planned giving campaign.

In addition, the position develops and oversees internal and external communications tools, organizational outreach, event management and volunteer management. The incumbent is also the staff liaison to the Fundraising and Communications committees. This position is not a program (overseas development) role.


Fund Development

• Prepare and maintain the multi-year fundraising plan in conjunction with the fundraising committee

• Identify, cultivate and solicit major donors in collaboration with board volunteers

• •Manage monthly donor plan, organizational donor, annual donor, membership and planned giving programs

• Write and coordinate appeals, stewardship reports, and donor communication materials

• Provide reports and/or statistical analysis of fundraising activities

• Work with the fundraising committee to develop and implement the structures, policies, and procedures to support fundraising activities.

Communications/ Outreach/ Events

• •Coordinate membership communications, including special appeal campaigns, promotional materials and strategies, and renewals and correspondence;

• •Prepare and oversee the communications plan in conjunction with the Communications Committee and the staff team

• •Promote events with visitors from Latin American partners

• Manage social media content and technical needs

• Support the program staff to implement portions of the fundraising plan that require outreach to Canadian partners

• •Support event planning for the organization including annual and one-time events


• •Assist with miscellaneous office duties such as answering phones, receiving visitors, coffee sales, etc.

• •Coordinate and participates in assigned projects and activities

• •Prepare for meetings and maintain minutes for related committees

Knowledge, Abilities & Skills

• Post-secondary designation or equivalent experience in Fundraising

• •Marketing or Communications education/experience an asset

• •Excellent understanding of issues related to the operation of a charity and familiarity with CCRA fundraising guidelines

• •Previous experience developing and implementing a fundraising plan

• •Demonstrated ability to think strategically and plan ahead

• •Ability to execute or oversee a project as agreed with minimal supervision

• •Event planning and executing

• •Excellent interpersonal skills

• •Professional written communication skills

• •Proficiency in databases (e.g. GiftWorks, Raiser’s Edge), social media platforms and web publishing

• •Strong organizational skills

• •Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a group

• •Previous experience in a non-profit or labour organization would be an asset

• •Experience in working with leadership volunteers and planned giving / major gift solicitation an asset

• •Experience working in Central or South America and competency with Spanish are assets
