Support CoDev with your Time!
CoDevelopment Canada is seeking volunteers to support our solidarity work with partners in Canada and Latin America. Please note that CoDev does not place volunteers overseas. CCIC has a great list on their site of organizations that do.
We are very sorry but all of our volunteer needs are currently being met, check back for updates, or sign up for our e-bulletins for any new openings.
Public Engagement and Outreach
Activities include supporting CoDev staff in workshops, conventions and conferences, as well as other outreach work and events in Vancouver. Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn more in-depth about the work of CoDev and CoDev’s partners in Latin America and Canada, and will help prepare, organize and carry our speaking sessions and events about CoDev’s partners and issues related to the organization’s work in Latin America. CoDev also hopes this group of volunteers will support other special events that happen throughout the year.
Volunteer profile: Volunteers should feel comfortable working with the public, be outgoing, have knowledge about social justice issues in Latin America, or the will and desire to learn more in-depth about this topic.
Communications and Social Media
Activities include providing support in drafting articles and blogs for our website and social media sites (facebook, twitter). Volunteers will review the work of CoDev’s partners and engage with members, staff and other volunteers and prepare communication materials to disseminate information about the work carried out in Latin America by our partners. Volunteers will also collaborate to review other successful NGO media and social media fundraising campaigns and prepare ideas about campaigns that CoDev could launch to attract new members.
Volunteer profile: Volunteers should have excellent English writing skills and knowledge about social media as well as experience or interest in research and social media fundraising campaigns. Ability to read Spanish is an asset as much of the information about our Latin American partners is only in Spanish.
Activities include researching topics our Latin American partners are involved in which are linked to issues of concern to our Canadian partners, and developing brief documents to be circulated to partners and through CoDev’s communication channels. Other possible areas of support depending on time commitment including assisting in reviewing partner files to ensure files are complete and up to date and drafting updates on Latin American partner activities for Canadian partners.
Volunteer profile: Volunteers should have excellent English writing skills, knowledge of Latin American social issues, research skills and preferably a working knowledge of Spanish.
Social Justice Film Festival
Each spring CoDev, along with other organizations in Vancouver, organizes the JUST Film Festival. CoDev is seeking volunteers to support the organization of this festival (including promotion, logistics and other tasks) as well as during the 3-day film festival.
Volunteer profile: Volunteers should have excellent organizational skills and ideally some experience organizing events. Experience with social media and marketing is an asset.
Activities include translating documents from Spanish to English and informal interpretation from Spanish to English and English to Spanish at events and conferences when CoDev facilitates Latin American partner visits to BC. Support is also needed in translating articles and communications materials from English to French.
Volunteer profile: Volunteers should have excellent written and/or spoken Spanish and English and/or French and English.
Activities include developing leaflets, pamphlets and general marketing materials to promote CoDev’s social enterprise Café Etico, as well as CoDev’s other activities.
Volunteer profile: Volunteers should have excellent graphic design skills and experience with InDesign, Photoshop, or other design software.
