Inspiring Words from a Young Honduran Poet

On Saturday, June 11, CoDev held another in its Spotlight Series of webinars. This time our focus was on Honduras. We hosted many guests, but Dylan Joseph Castellanos Guardado, an elementary school student and poet, captured our hearts with a heartfelt and poignant poem. You can read it here in Spanish with the English translation below each stanza.

Como el sol de un nuevo amanecer
el niño y la niña va comprender
con la pedagogía no sexista
integralmente voy a crecer

Like the sun of a new dawn
the boy and the girl will understand
with the non-sexist pedagogy
I will grow integrally

dios en su infinita bondad
gracias al Pricphma y Codesarrollo Canadá
maestros y maestras de buena voluntad
unieron experiencias para un libro crear
Aprendamos en Movimiento nos viene a formar
y así las prácticas sexistas erradicar.

 God in his infinite goodness
thanks to Pricphma and Codevelopment Canada

"Let's Learn in Movement" comes to train us
and thus eradicate sexist practices.

Honduras mi tierra natal
las aulas de clase va transformar
con una enseñanza de calidad
ni colores, ni roles voy a discriminar

 Honduras my homeland
classrooms will transform
with quality teaching
neither colors nor roles will I discriminate

 Hoy siento, pienso y actúo
para no violentar
mujeres y hombres se deben complementar
buscando el respeto y la paz

Today I feel, think and act
not to violate
women and men should complement each other
looking for respect and peace

 El Pricphma sembró la semilla
Codesarrollo Canada la va a rega
maestros y maestras van a cultivar
niños y niñas nos toca cuidar
y toda honduras lo va apreciar
formando estudiantes para progresar.

 Pricphma sowed the seed
CoDevelopment Canada is going to water it
teachers are going to cultivate
boys and girls we have to take care
and all Honduras will appreciate it
training students to progress.
