We build partnerships between trade unions and civil society organizations in Canada and Latin America to protect and advance workers’ rights, foster gender equity, strengthen public education, engage Canadians in global issues, and promote fair trade and community development in a just and sustainable world.
We are looking for a Finance and Operations Director to join our staff team.
Part-time, 0.8 FTE (30 hours per week, 4 days a week). Starting wage is $38.58 hourly, plus generous vacation and benefits package. This is a unionized position. Terms and conditions as per the COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT between CODEVELOPMENT CANADA and CANADIAN UNION OF PUBLIC EMPLOYEES, LOCAL 1004. Preferred start date is April 6, 2026, but the successful candidate may be accommodated with a modified start date. This is a temporary position to be filled until May 31st, 2026, with the possibility of an extension. This is an onsite, in-office position.
Job Summary
The Finance and Operations Director has overall responsibility for financial management and bookkeeping, including funding reports, budgets, money management, and financial systems for both CoDevelopment Canada and Café Etico. The Financial Director works as a member of a closely-knit staff team. The Financial Director reports to the Executive Director and to the Finance Committee of the CoDev Board of Directors.
Responsibilities:
Ensures conformity with Corporations Canada requirements and files annual reports.
Monitors compliance with Revenue Canada charity requirements.
Prepares and submits the annual T3010 charitable return.
Manages all payroll-related activities, including preparation of Revenue Canada remittances, T4’s, Records of Employment, and tracking all Collective Agreement entitlements and wages for individual employees.
Manages all records for donations in the accounting system and the donor database, and issues charitable tax receipts.
Manages all accounts payable and receivable, including processing and paying bills, issuing invoices and receipts, tracking payments, and ensuring timely collection and accurate record keeping.
Provides overall financial management, including accounting and cash flow management, preparation of regular reports to the Finance committee and the Board of Directors, preparation of year-end close, and liaising with the auditor.
Prepares and maintains the organizational budget, in conjunction with the Finance Committee.
Prepares program budgets and financial reports, in conjunction with program staff
Maintains financial records and bank accounts, including preparing deposits, managing financial filing systems, maintaining the accounting system and records, and completing monthly bank reconciliations.
Liaise with software companies and external consultants as CoDev transitions to new financial systems.
Updates, maintains, and adheres to the Finance policy document.
Prepares and follows up for the Finance Committee meetings and Board meetings.
Maintains and updates bylaws and policy and procedure manuals.
General administration of the office, including maintenance of supplies and services, purchasing of equipment, and maintenance of office and IT systems and support.
Assists with miscellaneous office duties, such as answering phones, receiving visitors, handling coffee sales, etc.
Participates in all CoDev events and staff meetings
Qualifications and Requirements
Eligibility to work in Canada
Ability to work a minimum of 30 hours per week in office
Ability to work irregular hours, as needed
Language proficiency in written and spoken English
University degree or College Diploma in a related area, or equivalent related work experience
Experience with QuickBooks and other financial platforms and programs.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on cultural sensitivity
Related work experience in a charitable non-profit organization preferred
