Multi-Union Delegation
Women Building Power in Central America: Human and Labour Rights are Women’s Rights
CoDevelopment Canada Delegation to Central America
November 2026 (Dates to be confirmed)
CoDevelopment Canada (CoDev) is pleased to invite Members of Canadian Trade Unions to participate in an 8-day delegation to Central America to learn about the transformative work of our Latin American Solidarity Partners.
Workers in Central America face enormous challenges linked to the enduring impacts of colonization, neoliberalism, and oppressive foreign policy targeting the region.
There are similar struggles facing the working people in Canada: fighting to stop violence in the workplace and to improve occupational health and safety, while dealing with privatization and the defunding of public services.
INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY
The Canadian working class shares an interest in the struggles of its Central American counterparts. Canadian foreign policy and companies have influenced Central American affairs, especially in trade. For decades, neoliberalism has shaped economic and political directives in Canada and globally, prompting workers in both regions to organize and resist policies that undermine their rights and power. Despite significant challenges, women workers in Central America and their organizations have fought to defend public services, women’s rights, and labour rights. Their community and labor organizing serve as an inspiring model for similar struggles in Canada.
DELEGATION OBJECTIVES:
Learning about the social economic context of working people in Central America.
Enabling delegates to exchange with a number of grassroots community and labour organizations in Central America which are partners of unions in Canada.
Strenghtening international solidarity in delegates' unions and workplaces.
COST PER DELEGATE:
Around CAD $2,700.00, plus airfare, estimated at CAD$1,200, and meals.
Delegation costs cover all lodging, in-country transportation (land and air), interpretation, translation, and delegation coordination and accompaniment.
