POWER UP CUBA!

For over 67 years, Cuba has given the world teachers, medical workers, and hope that another world is possible.

Now it’s time for all of us to add our POWER to the Cuban struggle to resist the latest attempts by the Trump administration to suffocate the Cuban people.

Donate Today!

This past January, President Donald Trump formally cut off Cuba’s external oil supply through an illegal oil blockade enforced by extraterritorial violence and kidnapping, high-seas piracy, and coercive threats of tariffs on countries that formerly supplied or could have supplied oil to Cuba. This is all on top of the 64-year-old U.S. embargo on Cuba. As a result, the Cuban people, including our union partners, are being hit with extreme shortages of basic goods and energy which threaten their very survival.

But we aren’t powerless here in Canada. Through participating in the Power Up Cuba! fundraising campaign, you will help empower Cuban union members to resist these U.S. attacks against their sovereignty and human rights. Your funds will be used to purchase emergency items that our Cuban union partners have requested, including:

  • Solar panels

  • Solar-powered generators

  • Solar-powered charging stations

  • E-bikes

  • Portable phone chargers

  • Rechargeable light bulbs

  • Flour, grains, cereals

  • Toothpaste

  • Over-the-counter medicine

  • Powdered detergent

  • And more more!

TIMELINE:

Time is of the essence! Given the urgency of the moment, we are simultaneously collecting funds and purchasing much-needed items from suppliers both inside and outside of Cuba. These supplies will be distributed from March to early May, when CoDev’s program directors will be on the ground as part of the CoDev May Day Delegation. They will make the last of the Power Up Cuba! purchases in Cuba before the end of the trip.

OUR CUBAN PARTNERS:

Power Up Cuba! is a union-to-union, worker-to-worker campaign. CoDev stands in solidarity with our partner Cuban labour organisations, as they continue supporting their members across the island despite lack of fuel, food and many other daily essentials. Our partners are:

  • National Union of Education, Science, and Sport Workers (SNTECD)

  • National Union of Public Administration Workers (SNTAP)

  • Workers’ Central Union of Cuba (CTC).
