BC Teachers’ Federation voices support for Cuban teachers
Carole Gordon, President of the BC Teachers’ Federation, has sent a letter to the Cuban National Union of Education, Science and Sports Workers (SNTECD), expressing deep concern about the human rights impacts of the U.S. executive order of January 29, 2026. That order imposes a fuel blockade on Cuba and “marks another step towards a complete siege of the Cuban economy and poses a significant threat to the wellbeing and survival of its population.”
The letter commends SNTECD for working alongside the Central Workers’ Union of Cuba (CTC), and using innovative approaches to actively resist the long-standing blockade by the United States. Gordon also expresses admiration for Cuban teachers who provide “an inclusive and equitable education system for all children and youth,” despite escalating hardships.
“We stand alongside your ongoing revolutionary commitment to fight the global threat of imperialism and defend the well-being of all Cubans within an independent and sovereign country.”
