Board Duties
CoDev is an international solidarity organization based founded in 1985 by B.C.-based trade unionists and solidarity activists who chose solidarity over charity. CoDev's works for social justice and global education in the Americas by linking unions and civil society organizations in Canada with like-minded organizations in Latin America, establishing and sustaining partnerships to build solidarity, promote mutual understanding, and create change for a more just and equitable world.
CoDev’s Board is a working board that meets once per month (with a July and August recess), and every second meeting is in person in the Vancouver area. The meetings aim to exchange with CoDev staff, discuss projects, establish priorities, set policies, coordinate events and confer on the direction of our organization. The first board meeting will be on September 18, and the second on October 9. The Board of Directors is expected to attend a minimum of 60% of Board meetings.
Board members are expected to participate in one CoDev committee (e.g. Fundraising, Finance, Personnel, etc.), which meets as needed, usually five to 6 times yearly. Other commitments include participating in Board orientation, workshops, and an annual strategic planning day; assisting with organizing and setting up at CoDev events; conducting various outreach activities at CoDev, Canadian Partner, and community events; and accompanying visiting representatives of Latin American partners.
